Jim Thorpe Area Running Festival Race Description

May 11th: Half Marathon "From the Mountains to the Lake to the Mansion"
May 12th: 5K,10K and Team Relays (and FREE kid's fun run!)

Half Marathon
The 2019 half marathon course will take you from the beautiful view atop Flagstaff Mountain to the shores of Mauch Chunk Lake to the steps of Packer Mansion. With breathtaking views, serene woodland paths, a healthy dose of history, and an overall elevation drop of nearly 700 feet, this half marathon is sure to please runners of all ages and abilities! Take a look at the course and elevation maps below. *Note the roughly two-miles of downhill at the start.

5K, 10K & Team Relays (and FREE Kid's Fun Run!)
Treat Mom to her healthiest (and most beautiful) Mother’s Day yet. The 5K, 10K, and team relays will take runners around the shores of the beautiful Owl Creek Reservoir in Tamaqua, PA, a short drive from downtown Jim Thorpe. The 5K will start at 8 am, the 10K at 8:45. Relay teams (of up to 6) are invited to begin at 8 am and run all 15K. The Kid's 800m Fun Run will kick off at 9! Afterwards, we’ll cap off the weekend festival with an all-out, family-friendly celebration including music and games!

Running Surface
The half marathon will take you from a paved downhill to the hard-packed dirt/gravel Switchback Railroad Trail to the short grass of the Apple Orchard Trail and back to the Switchback.
The 5K, 10K, and team relays will take you on the asphalt and hard-packed dirt/gravel around Owl Creek Reservoir.

Unique Race T-shirt
Everyone who registers before 4/8/19 will be guaranteed a unique tech poly-50/50 blend race T-shirt. Runners who register for the Super Trifecta (all three races) will receive two shirts--one for Day 1 and one for Day 2.

Bib Pickup

Half marathon runners can pick up their bibs at the race expo on Friday May 10th at the Inn of Jim Thorpe from 12pm to 8pm. If you can't make it to the expo, we will mail your packet (including your T-shirt) for $12.
5K, 10K, and team relay runners can pick up their bibs at the expo, near the starting line, or have them mailed for $12. *PLEASE NOTE that day-of pickup is ONLY for 5K, 10K, and team relay runners NOT half marathoners.

Pre-Half Pasta Dinner
On Friday, May 10th, the Broadway Grille (the restaurant at the Inn at Jim Thorpe) will offer a pre-race pasta buffet special. Anyone who might be interested in joining us for that pre-race fuel sesh should check the box at sign up. We'll send out an email in late February to confirm the numbers for the Inn.

Parking
Half Marathon: Because Jim Thorpe is a quaint mountain town, parking will most definitely be limited. No matter where you park, you'll have to take a brief shuttle ride to our starting area. Shuttles will be available to return you to your car after the event.
The easiest option: Purchase a Mauch Chunk Lake Festival Parking Pass ($5) with your registration. It will allow you to park at Mauch Chunk Lake. This guarantees you a spot in a specific lot on race day. To encourage car pooling, if three or more runners arrive in your car, you will receive a full refund for your parking pass.
Another option: Park in the Carbon County Municipal lot about three-tenths of a mile from the finish area for $6. This lot is on a first-come-first-served basis. Once it is full, runners will be directed to one of our overflow lots, which will be free, but will require longer a shuttle ride.

Owl Creek 5K, 10K, and Team Relays: Participants will park in the lots and on the road around Owl Creek Reservoir.

Half Marathon Transportation
 to the Starting Line
Because the half-marathon will start on top of a mountain, there will not be parking by the starting line. Free shuttles will take participants from the parking lots to the starting line. The shuttle ride from Mauch Chunk Lake takes approximately 4 minutes. The ride from the Carbon County Lot takes approximately 8 minutes.

Awards
Half Marathon: All finishers will receive a unique finisher's medal. In addition, prizes will be awarded to the top three M/F overall, the top three M/F masters, and the top three M/F in the following age groups: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+.

5K, 10K, and Team Relays: Prizes will be awarded to the top three M/F overall and the top three M/F in the following age groups for the 5K and 10K: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ The top teams in the team relays will also win awards.

The Trifecta: Any runner who completes the Half, 5K, and 10K will receive a very special award--details to follow!

Charity
A portion of the proceeds from the race will benefit Turn to Us, Inc., a local Jim Thorpe area 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides assistance to the families of children and adults with terminal illness. We will also make donations to the Owl Creek Reservoir Commission and the Jim Thorpe Police Department. In addition, Turn to Us, Inc. will receive 100% of any additional donations made through our race registration partner, Run Signup.
