Movin' for Miriya Race Description

Please join us in Movin’ for Miriya, a 5k run/walk on April 8, 2017, presented by Queens Distance Runners. Movin' for Miriya is a fundraising event and celebration in honor of our daughter, Miriya. The race will take place in Forest Park, Richmond Hill, Queens at 9 am.

10 years ago, Miriya came into our lives prematurely and stayed in the hospital for 2 months for a variety of health issues. In 2011, she was diagnosed with Loeys-Dietz Syndrome (LDS), a genetic disorder that affects the connective tissue in our body. Because connective tissue is found throughout the body, LDS features can occur in the heart, blood vessels, bone, joints, skin, and internal organs. Common features of LDS include aortic dilation or aneurysm, aortic dissection, ruptured spleen, scoliosis, osteoporosis, flexible joints, cervical instability, food allergies, cleft palate and arterial tortuosity. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Loeys-Dietz Syndrome Foundation, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, whose mission is to encourage education, foster research and provide support for those impacted by LDS. The first 100 registrants receive a jar of Peanut Butter & Co Dark Chocolate Dreams with a tote (only available for registrants for bib & tee shirt).
