Pecan Grove Turkey Trot Race Description

Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 26, 2020, The Thankful Ones will host the Annual Turkey Trot in Pecan Grove. We will start on Plantation Drive (park at Randall's) and trot from there. Check-in, same-day registration, and pre-race announcements will be from 7-7:45. The run will start at 8! Also, Wishbone the turkey will be there for pictures and fun with the kiddos!

ABOUT THE THANKFUL ONES:
On Thanksgiving Eve of 2015 Katie, Emme, Easton, and I, Matthew Martin, welcomed my six-year-old cousin, Everly Frances, into our home.  She is an amazing child that deserves to be in a loving, safe, and structured environment. Fortunately for Everly, she has a huge support system willing to step up to do everything in our power to make that happen. Many children are not as fortunate, and this is the reason I along with family and close friends formed The Thankful Ones.

The Thankful Ones is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization (Tax ID#
81-4247715)  that will ultimately provide financial support to the families in the process of adopting a child of addictive parents, and bring awareness to the topic of adoption and addiction and how children are affected by both. The adoption process is a grueling one that requires a lot of time, patience, money, support, faith, and prayer. Until one gets involved in something like this, one cannot imagine how complex, time-consuming and expensive the legal system is regarding adoption.

2017 Turkey Trot Results:  As we began early preparation for the 2017 Turkey Trot, the unfortunate events of Hurricane Harvey took some of the wind out of our sails.  Once again we were back to "last minute" planning and scrambling to get organized for the event.  Everyone managed to come together to pull off another successful Thanksgiving morning Turkey Trot.  We estimated over 300 trotters came out, and we raised over $16,500. After covering our expenses we were able to donate $10,000.000 to Child Advocates of Fort Bend.

Everly Update:  Everly turned 8 this past June and recently started her Second Grade year at Pecan Grove Elementary.  She continues to make tremendous strides both scholastically and socially as well as being a great big sister to Emme, Easton, and now Ellis.  Everly loves swimming, gymnastics, riding her bike and playing outside, and playing with her dolls.  Her imagination and creative personality are what make her such a unique and special child.

OUR MISSION:
The Thankful Ones is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization and shall operate exclusively for educational and charitable purposes. The Thankful Ones’ purpose is to provide financial support to families in the process of adopting a child/children of addictive parents. The proceeds given to the adoptive family will help pay for court fees, counseling costs, and other expenses that ensure the safety and well being of the child/children. By hosting fundraising events, The Thankful Ones will work to bring awareness to the topics of adoption and addiction and how both affect children involved. We will provide volunteer opportunities to generate a greater effect and to create community involvement and awareness. To maximize our impact, we may seek to collaborate with other similar non-profit organizations that fall under the 501 (c)(3) section of the internal revenue code and are operated exclusively for educational and charitable purposes.
