Rural Route 13.1 Race Description

The Rural Route 13.1 offers a variety of events that take runners, walkers, and bikers along a scenic tour of rural Jewell County Kansas. Rolling hills challenge participants while providing stunning views of the countryside. After crossing the finish line, everyone is invited to enjoy a complimentary hot breakfast made from locally-sourced food. For just a $10 entry fee, all participants will receive a customized race bib, finisher medal, and the opportunity to personalize their own souvenir - a limestone rock, native to Jewell County.  For a $30 entry fee, participants will also receive a performance-material t-shirt.

The Rural Route 13.1 has races for all ages and levels to experience.

For those members of your household not old enough to participate, jogging strollers and bike trailers are welcome. 

*Participants are welcome to change events - just let staff know when you pick up your race packet.

Race packets will be available for pick-up at the Esbon Community Center on Friday afternoon from 4-6.  Same day packet pick-up and registration will also be available from 7:00-7:45 AM on race day.

10k Races being at 8 AM; 13.1  and 26 mile races will begin immediately after.  Breakfast will begin being served at 8:30 and will continue until the last participant finishes!

 All proceeds will benefit the Zach Kindler Memorial Scholarship Fund.

 

Race Notes

 

  • Parking is available along Grand Ave and side streets surrounding the Esbon Community Center

 

  • We will have a timer at the finish line, but no check-in points along the race courses.  Participants are encouraged to provide their own timing device.

 

  • Drink stations will be available at least every two miles throughout the race courses

 

  • Volunteers will be stationed throughout both routes to ensure the youth know the route and to alert any vehicles that there are participants on the road.

 

  • Volunteers will be patrolling the courses throughout the race.  Participants may alert them or anyone at the water stations if they are feeling ill and need medical attention.

 

  • Restrooms are available at the start and finish of the race, but not along the race courses.

 

  • Participants are welcome to wear headphones, but they do so at their own risk.  Although the race courses follow lightly-traveled roads, they will be open to through traffic making an awareness of surroundings important.

 

  • Strollers and bike trailers are welcome.

 

  • Bike helmets are not required, but are strongly recommended.

 

  • Any items left with volunteers along the route will be brought to the finish line at the conclusion of the race.

 

  • Friends and family are welcome to cheer participants on at any location along the race courses.  For the increased safety of our participants, we ask that they try to avoid driving on the courses. 

 

Severe Weather

 

  • In the event of severe weather, race coordinators will e-mail, text, and post to Facebook any information about delays and/or cancellations.
