Sandy River Run Race Description

Introduction:

Hi, I would like to invite you to the Inaugural Sandy River Run held on November 26th 2016 in Sandy, Oregon. Firstm a little introduction. My name is Anthony Bucci and I have a blog called The Beerded Runner, hopefully you've heard of me, if not please give me a follow @thebeerdedrunner on Instagram, @beerdedrunner on Twitter, & Facebook./thebeerdedrunner. I Love to pray, run, drink beer, and grow a beard to my toes! Running is a passion of mine, specifically trail running and I hope in life to inspire others to do the same. I believe that every single mile is a challenge, as well as an accomplishment, and should be rewarded with beer (please drink responsibly). Running or even walking a mile no matter how long it takes is a lot harder than just sitting on the couch and watching TV!

I want to start my own racing company called The Beerded Running Co. and I would Love to start by putting on a trail run right here in my town of Sandy, "The Gateway to Mt Hood". In this somewhat small town of Sandy is a couple of trails, one of which is the Sandy River Trail. As someone said "it is one mile down and two miles up". The trail is actually one mile down and one mile up but there is another loop that will extend it a bit and it will all together add up to about a 5k (3.1 miles).

This event will be held the Saturday after Thanksgiving so when you're all done turkey trotting and stuffing your faces with turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, and my favorite, pumpkin pie (especially from Costco, P.S. best food ever!). Incase you missed all those turkey trot runs or even if you didn't come post turkey trotting and pre Christmas cookies trotting (or post Christmas cookie trotting, no judgements). Come trot on down to the (most likely) wet & muddy Sandy River Trail for a fun and challenging 5K! ("down to the River to pray" for any of Oh Brother Where Art thou fans) .

Course description:

The Sandy River Run will be an all ages event. The course is 100% trail. This will not be your easiest 5k distance but it will be a great introduction to trail running. This will be a challenging but very fun course. It is being held in late November so it will most likely be a bit wet and muddy. We will be eco friendly and this will be a cup-less race so even though it will be a bit wet and cold please consider having some water on your person such as a handheld.

The course starts and finishes at the Sandy River Trail head. It continues on down the somewhat technical double track trail then you will turn left onto the Jim Slagel Loop Trail which is 100% beautiful single track. The course continues on this trail and comes to a junction to go right back onto the Sandy River Trail or continue left on the Jim Slagel Loop Trail which you will turn left to stay on.

As you continue on the very fun & beautiful forested single track gradually going down towards the Sandy River you will then connect back to the Sandy River trail and turn left down towards the River. You will continue going on down to the River and reach the beach of the River where this will be the turn around point. You will then head back up the Sandy River Trail and then about 500 ft before the trail head and finish you will turn right back onto the Jim Slagel trail. You will then continue down the Jim Slagel Trail and go right at the first junction to loop back to the Sandy River Trail for your second but partial loop of the Jim Slagel Trail. You will go straight up to the finish and the Sandy River Trail Head. approximately over 600 ft elevation gain total.
