Race Info:

The second annual Stoneleigh Derby will be held on  November 5, 2023. The Derby is designed to be a one-mile run. Stoneleigh Stallions are encouraged to run, walk, skip, or dance their way through the one-mile course. The race will be held on school grounds. 

We will also be hosting a parent-teacher mile and a little sibs' sprint. The sprint will be 50 meters and is designed for kids who can walk or run on their own. The sprint will be on the grass. Parents can assist their children as needed. The timing for the events is listed below:

K and First: 1:15 PM

Second and Third: 1:45 PM

Little Sib Sprint: 2:15 PM

Parent/Staff/Community Member: 2:30 PM

Fourth and Fifth: 2:45 PM

(Please plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of your event to participate in grade-level warm-up activities). 

Registration: 

All proceeds will benefit the Stoneleigh Elementary PTA and will help students and staff directly! The registration fee includes a t-shirt! Can't swing the registration fee but still want to run? Stoneleigh students are eligible for Derby scholarships (email stoneleighderby@gmail.com if you are interested in a scholarship). The costs for each category are listed below:

K-5: $25

Parent/Teacher/Older Sibs/Community Members: $25

Lil Sibs Sprint: $15 

*Please note that registration fees increase by $10 after 10/15*

When registering, the "First Name" and "Last Name" should be the name of the runner, parent/guardian's name should be listed as the Emergency Contact.

The classroom with the largest percentage of registrations will win a prize!

Who is Eligible?

The 2023 race is open to the entire community including friends and family members of current students or staff members. If a student is not comfortable running the course on their own, an adult may run with the student at no extra cost, but students are encouraged to run on their own when possible. 

T-shirts:

All registered participants will receive a Stoneleigh Derby t-shirt! When you register for the event you will be prompted to enter a t-shirt size.  T-shirts will be distributed with the race packet prior to the race.  Everyone is encouraged to wear their T-shirts to the race!  The 2023 t-shirts will be purple and will also serve as a great purple Friday option!

Race Packets:

Race packets will be distributed the week before the event.  Specific information about packet pick-up will be available closer to the date of the race.  If you are registering as a parent/teacher/community member or little sib please select the homeroom teacher that you would like your race packet affiliated with.

The Cheering Section:

For the first time ever we are adding a "Cheering Section" to the event. Friends, neighbors, grandparents, etc. can "place a bet on"/donate to a special student/stallion. There is no winner of the race but everyone wins with this plan! All donations go directly to the student body and staff. Money raised through the Derby funds field trips, assemblies, classroom supplies, teacher/staff appreciation events, and community-building nights such as the ice cream social. COVID-19 Safety:

If you or a member of your family is experiencing COVID symptoms on race day, please do not attend. If you want to participate in the race but don't want to gather in a group, please consider running the race virtually.  Students can register for the race and then email us photos of them running the one-mile race in a location of their choice!
