This race is one of my family’s favorites!

We run the 5 3/4 mile distance EVERY year. (There are other distances, but just know that the 5K doesn’t end on the beach). We make this our annual family beach trip to the small California coastal town of Trinidad. You start this beautiful race at around 1 p.m. (the temps are perfect) in downtown Trinidad, wind on a scenic road overlooking the ocean most of the way. At about 2 miles remaining you go down onto the beach and cross a river that has been anywhere from ankle deep to waist deep through the years we’ve run it. There are rescue swimmers in the water to help runners cross. The last two miles are on the sand. The finish has the local high school band in silly costumes playing. I run this race with my daughter, my girlfriend and have had my grandchildren run with us. We spend a few days there and always celebrate after the race with clam chowder. What a perfect family trip.
